The PRSI Hair Replacement Benefit 
First step is the system is checked to see if you have enough PRSI contributions to qualify (if you do not qualify under your own PPS number you can apply under dependents spouse scheme). Your application then goes to the relevant department which may take around 2 weeks to be processed. If  approved, you can book an appointment to use your benefit towards your hair piece or wig which is up to €500 per year. Hair Conditions that qualify with a Doctors note  must specify either Alopecia, Hair Loss (Frontal Fibrosis) or Clients undergoing Chemotherapy) Email accounts@hairclub.ie e grant of up to €500 will assist in the purchase of a wig or hairpiece for people who experience hair loss.

Ms. Paddy Pender of Alopecia Ireland said:

“I really hope this new grant will help in some small way in improving the quality of life of people who need it. It is designed to support women or men who lose something that so many of us, on a daily basis, take for granted.”

"Many of us struggle to maintain quality wigs, pieces and prostheses as we live with alopecia. This grant will help in no small way to alleviate some of the stress the condition causes us.

“Alopecia affects people in a variety of ways but all of us know the pain of hair loss. We are grateful for the financial support towards restoring our crowning glories!”

Generally we find clients prefer human hair wigs over synthetic. The reason being is real hair wigs look more natural while also having the flexibility in being able to curl and style them. Unfortunately like all good things after Covid, a quality product like a real hair piece is going to cost you considerable more than two years ago. However, keep in mind human hair will last longer than their fibre counterpart.
